Gunnison Copper CEO Stephen Twyerould talked with Proactive about the company's recent operational breakthrough and what it means for the future of its flagship projects.
The company has officially joined the ranks of copper producers in the US, a milestone that CEO Stephen Twyerould described as “exciting” and the result of 12 months of construction work.
Twyerould confirmed that the company is now delivering American-made copper cathode directly into the US market.
The conversation also focused on the company’s recently announced mineral sorting results, a key part of what it calls the “high value add” program.
This initiative centres on the Gunnison Project and the Johnson Camp facility.
According to Twyerould, a successful sorting trial allowed Gunnison to remove 90% of internal waste while losing less than 1% of mineralized material.
“This means our head grade goes up, our costs go down,” Twyerould said, noting that improved grade and lower acid consumption translate to stronger project economics.
The CEO also noted that Gunnison’s after-tax NPV sits at USD 1.30 billion, with an internal rate of return of 21% and an all-in sustaining cash cost of USD 1.94 per pound.
