Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC, OTC:ORHHF) earlier this week updated investors on the rollout of its nerve repair device Remplir™ into the Australian market. The company said the collagen-based product has now been used in approximately 40 procedures, primarily in robotic prostate cancer surgeries. Significant new use case
Orthocell's nerve repair device Remplir™ is now being used in Australia, with around 40 procedures completed.
Chairman John Van Der Wielen told Proactive the product’s application in men's health represents a significant new use case. He said the ability to wrap and protect nerves during radical prostatectomy may help reduce side effects such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence.
The company highlighted that Remplir™ is a biological rather than synthetic collagen device. It dissolves naturally within the body over a three to six-month period, which it believes offers advantages during and after surgical procedures.
Used by more than 200 Australian surgeons
Van Der Wielen said more than 200 surgeons in Australia are now using Orthocell's products. Australia is being used as a test bed for broader clinical integration, while expansion into the United States remains in early stages.
In the US, the company said distribution and hospital approval processes are ongoing, with Remplir™ already used in a number of cases. It views the total addressable market in the United States as being worth approximately $1.60 billion.
Orthocell also noted potential for further applications of the device in other types of nerve protection, including in amputations and catheterisation procedures.
