The ASX 200 closed down by about 0.83 per cent and crossed below its 50-day moving average.
IT was the only sector to stay afloat, and energy plunged hard, shedding more than 5.5 per cent.

Imugene (ASX:IMU) had a stellar day after reporting further encouraging data from its Phase 1b trial of azer-cel, an off-the-shelf therapy for aggressive lymphoma. The treatment delivered an 81% overall response rate, including seven complete responses.
Buru Energy (ASX:BRU) was also up after clearing a major hurdle for its Rafael Gas Project in Western Australia, securing state environmental approval for its well-drilling plan. Drilling is slated for the second quarter of 2026.

Larvotto Resources took a dive (ASX:LRV) despite the company kicking off construction at its 100%-owned Hillgrove Antimony-Gold Project in New South Wales.
And Santos (ASX:STO) was also down on news its proposed takeover by the XRG Consortium will not go ahead.
