Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) agent that will help its third-party merchants operate their online businesses.
The eCommerce giant made the announcement on Wednesday during its annual Accelerate conference for sellers in Seattle.
Amazon is adding the new AI capabilities to its Seller Assistant, allowing the software to take action on a merchant’s behalf with their permission.
The company noted that Seller Assistant uses generative AI to conduct more tedious operational tasks, freeing up its merchants to “spend more time focusing on product innovation and customer relationships.”
The company doesn’t currently plan to charge merchants to use Seller Assistant.
Amazon’s 1.3 million third-party sellers account for more than half of all goods sold on its site, CNBC reported.
The media outlet noted that third-party merchants pay Amazon to access its in-house fulfillment services, account management services and other offerings.
The fees paid generated $40.3 billion in revenue for Amazon in its second quarter this year.
