Hercules wins £6.5m of water sector contracts as record investment begins

Hercules PLC (LSE:HERC), the labour supply group focused on UK infrastructure projects, has secured £6.5 million of new work in the water sector as utilities step up spending under a fresh regulatory cycle.

The contracts have been awarded by Galliford Try, Costain, Tilbury Douglas, MWH Treatment, Glanua and Thames Water, covering upgrades at clean and wastewater treatment facilities across the country.

About £4.5 million of the work is in the Thames Water region, with £1 million each in Severn Trent and Anglian Water’s areas.

The wins come as the water industry embarks on its biggest-ever investment programme.

Regulator Ofwat has signed off plans for utilities to spend more than £104 billion between 2025 and 2030 in what is known as Asset Management Period 8, or AMP8.

This five-year cycle will see record levels of capital expenditure aimed at cutting pollution, improving environmental performance, upgrading ageing networks and strengthening resilience to climate change.

Hercules said it expects further opportunities as spending accelerates. The company is already active across most of the country’s main water regions, including Southern, Wessex, United Utilities, Welsh and Yorkshire Water. It has also joined British Water, the industry’s trade body.

Brusk Korkmaz, chief executive, said: “With record investment planned in the sector, Hercules is well placed to play a significant role in improving water and wastewater services across the UK.

"These new contracts demonstrate the strength of our client relationships and the trust they place in Hercules to support the delivery of essential national infrastructure.”
