Orthocell chairman John Van Der Wielen talked with Proactive about the company’s latest expansion of its nerve repair device, Remplir™, into the Australian healthcare market.
Around 40 procedures have now been performed using the collagen-based device in Australia, primarily during robotic prostate cancer surgeries.
Van Der Wielen said, “Men’s health is an enormous market, and to assist people recovering from radical prostatectomy is an amazing outcome.”
Remplir™ is a biological — not synthetic — collagen wrap used to protect nerves during surgery. Its key benefit lies in the way it integrates into the body, dissolving naturally over 3 to 6 months. This property makes it particularly suitable for reducing complications such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence during prostate procedures.
Remplir™ had previously seen adoption in multiple US hospitals, and Orthocell is now leveraging Australia as a test bed for further clinical integration. The company reports that over 200 surgeons in Australia are currently using its products. According to Van Der Wielen, while the US rollout is still in the early phases, adoption is progressing well, and the market potential remains “enormous.”
