Over the past five sessions, the benchmark has risen 0.84% but remains 1.95% below its 52-week peak.
The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index also posted a strong session, gaining 32.30 points or 0.89% to 3,677.80. The index has added 1.65% over the last five days.
