Powerhouse sets sights on new projects as momentum builds

Powerhouse Energy Group PLC (AIM:PHE) has said the rest of 2025 will be “exciting” as it looks to push forward a growing pipeline of opportunities following the completion of its new testing centre in South Wales.

The AIM-listed company, which develops technology that turns unrecyclable waste into energy, has finished commissioning its Feedstock Testing Unit (FTU) at the Powerhouse Technology Centre in Bridgend.

The facility allows customers to test whether their waste streams are suitable for the group’s process, a step it believes will accelerate commercial take-up.

David Hitchcock, chairman, said: “The final commissioning of the FTU was a major milestone. This has rapidly become the cornerstone in PHE’s ability to further advance as well as promote its technology and expertise.”

The company is also working on proposals to apply its gasification process to sustainable aviation fuel, a fast-growing area as airlines and governments look for lower-carbon alternatives to kerosene.

Alongside its technology arm, Powerhouse owns Engsolve, an engineering consultancy that has been bringing in steady revenues.

Orders at Engsolve exceeded expectations in the first half, contributing to group sales of £474,900, up from £385,700 a year earlier. Gross profit rose to £166,200 from £98,200.

Cash at 30 June stood at £1.47 million, down from £2.73 million a year earlier.

In March, Powerhouse raised £1.375 million through a placing and retail share offer to strengthen its finances ahead of projects gathering pace, including Ballymena in Northern Ireland and a venture with National Hydrogen Limited in Australia.

The company said it chose to raise project finance specifically for Ballymena because of what it saw as unusually favourable conditions.

Not all projects have progressed. The joint venture at Longford with Hydrogen Utopia was dissolved after the loss of a land option, while an agreement for a site at Protos was not renewed.

Even so, the group pointed to “a significantly increasing pipeline” of prospects, including interest in Southeast Asia and Australia.

Hitchcock said the focus was on advancing projects “whilst minimising any costs incurred to Powerhouse” and praised the stability of the management team. “The second half of the year promises to be another exciting one,” he said.

Powerhouse also reported further patents granted in the US, Europe, Australia and Indonesia, protecting the design of its technology as it pushes towards commercialisation.
