Banking giant ANZ (ASX:ANZ) plunged after agreeing to pay $240 million to settle five regulatory investigations with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, including penalties related to its role in a 2023 10-year Treasury bond issuance.

Contact Energy (ASX:CEN) was also down after its latest monthly report showed mass market electricity and gas sales fell down to 454 gigawatt-hours in August, compared with 456 gigawatt-hours just a year ago.
