Happy Creek Minerals Ltd. (TSX-V:HPY, OTC:HPYCF) CEO Jason Bahnsen talked with Proactive about the restart of drilling at the company’s Fox Tungsten Project.
The high-grade deposit, located in British Columbia, already has a 2018 resource estimate of 1.2 million tonnes grading over 1% tungsten, and the new 100-hole diamond drilling program aims to significantly expand that figure.
Bahnsen said, “We think it has potential to expand significantly,” and noted the ambition to potentially double the resource base.
The current program is part of a broader 10,000-metre campaign, which will continue into the next field season, with the ultimate goal of updating the NI 43-101 compliant resource.
He also provided insights on tungsten’s growing strategic value, particularly in the defense sector.
With prices rising and the U.S. being the largest importer — around 10,000 tonnes annually — Bahnsen highlighted the market opportunity: “We're sitting there with one of the highest grade deposits in the world. So I think [we’re] very well positioned for the future.”
Fox is currently among the few high-grade tungsten projects advancing in North America, a region with no active tungsten mines since the closure of Cantung.
