OpenAI appears to have developed an appetite not just for data, but for power: to the tune of $300 billion.
That is the reported value of a five-year contract signed with Oracle, making it one of the largest cloud computing deals ever struck, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The agreement, set to begin in 2027, follows July’s announcement of a partnership to build data centres worth 4.5 gigawatts of capacity as part of the so-called Stargate project backed by SoftBank and former president Donald Trump.
Oracle said this week that fresh demand for cloud services has helped lift future contract revenue by more than $317 billion, sending its shares sharply higher.
