Medicus Pharma (NASDAQ:MDCX) announced that its SKNJCT-004 Phase 2 clinical study, a non-invasive treatment for Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) of the skin, has begun patient recruitment in Cleveland clinic Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The biotech/life sciences company said the study is expected to randomize 36 patients in four sites in UAE.
"Commencing patient recruitment in the SKNJCT-004 clinical study at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a promising step forward towards our goal to bring to market a first-in-class novel non-invasive alternative to treat BCC," Medicus Pharma CEO Raza Bokhari said in a statement.
"We have already randomized more than 75% of the 90 participants expected to be randomized in our AI-powered SKNJCT-003 study, in the United States, which we believe represents more than US$2 billion in potential market opportunity."
Medicus noted that the study will evaluate the efficacy of two dose levels of D-MNA compared to a placebo control.
It added that the participants will be randomized 1:1:1 to one of three groups: a placebo-controlled group receiving P-MNA, a low-dose group receiving 100µg of D-MNA, and a high-dose group receiving 200µg of D-MNA.
As well, the company reported that it has the SKNJCT-003 Phase 2 clinical study currently underway in nine clinical sites across the US, which began randomizing patients in August 2024.
In March 2025, Medicus confirmed a positively trending interim analysis for SKNJCT-003 demonstrating more than 60% clinical clearance.
The findings of the interim analysis are preliminary and may or may not correlate with the findings of the study once completed, the company cautioned.
