D3 Energy fast-tracks ER315 Production Right application

D3 Energy Ltd (ASX:D3E, OTCQB:DNRGF) has reached a key milestone with the formal acceptance of its Production Right application for part of the ER315 permit in South Africa’s Free State Province. The application, submitted approximately 12 months ahead of schedule and under budget, has been accepted for processing by the Petroleum Agency SA — reflecting the company’s cost discipline and operational efficiency.

This latest milestone follows maiden reserve certification by global energy consultancy Sproule ERCE, which confirmed net 2P reserves of 10.91 billion cubic feet (bcf) methane and 0.706 bcf helium. The application area represents only 15% of ER315 and around 9% of the company’s broader acreage portfolio, underlining the scale of future upside.

Managing Director David Casey emphasised the significance.

“The submission of our initial Production Right application is an important step towards commercialisation of the recently certified reserves at ER315 and is both a validation of the exceptional technical results from ER315 and a demonstration of our ability to execute with discipline and pace. We are proud to be progressing what could become South Africa’s second onshore production licence and doing so ahead of plan and below budget.”

The submission marks a significant technical and commercial achievement, validating D3 Energy’s geological model and its structured approach to development.

The certified reserves cover just 3% of the company’s portfolio, signalling material growth potential.

Development plan and targeted returns

The application includes a development plan for 16 initial wells along the Virginia fault line, supported by robust flow testing and independent reserve certification.

A modular processing plant design and low-cost development model further de-risk project economics.

Importantly, D3 Energy is targeting first sales of methane and helium between late 2027 and early 2028, offering a clear pathway to cash flow generation.

If successful, the project would become South Africa’s second onshore production licence, enhancing its strategic value.

Portfolio expansion

Alongside ER315, D3 Energy is progressing exploration and appraisal activities across ER386 and advancing newly acquired helium and hydrogen permits in Australia’s Arckaringa Basin.

These assets broaden the company’s exposure to critical gases while maintaining ER315 as the flagship development. For investors, the early submission, low-cost model, and growing resource base highlight D3 Energy’s potential to generate near-term revenues and secure a long-term role in the global energy transition.
