Far East Gold expands Idenburg gold exploration footprint

Far East Gold Ltd (ASX:FEG) earlier this week expanded the exploration footprint at its Idenburg Project in Indonesia, with the identification of 14 new high-priority targets. The company said this follows a structural assessment conducted by Murphy Geological Services and brings the total number of defined prospects to 29. Chief executive officer Shane Menere spoke with Proactive about the expansion.

Highlights

  • Far East Gold expanded its Idenburg Project in Indonesia with 14 new targets.
  • Total number of prospects now stands at 29 across a 95,280-hectare area.
  • Targets were identified using high-resolution Sentinel-2 satellite imagery.
  • Target rankings: 11 Priority 1, 8 Priority 2, and 10 Priority 3.
  • North Bermol has returned high-grade gold results and remains a key focus.
  • The project is within a globally significant mining corridor hosting Tier-1 deposits.
  • Ground-based work and drill planning are the next steps.
  • Far East Gold is advancing six projects across Australia and Indonesia.

New targets outlined

The new targets were outlined using high-resolution Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, interpreted at scales ranging from 1:10,000 to 1:20,000. Far East Gold said the data provided a comprehensive district-scale structural framework and allowed for systematic identification of areas with strong potential for gold discovery.

According to the company, the exploration footprint now includes 11 Priority 1, eight Priority 2, and 10 Priority 3 targets. These rankings will help guide future work programs and drilling strategies.

The company highlighted North Bermol as one of the highest-ranking areas. It said recent drilling confirmed the presence of mineralisation both along strike and at depth. These results support the area’s classification as a key target for follow-up exploration.

Menere said the expanded target list was a major step forward. “With the addition of 14 new target areas from this structural evaluation, we have significantly expanded the scope for discovery,” he told investors.

Idenburg continues to move forward

The Idenburg Project lies within a well-known mining corridor that hosts several Tier-1 gold and copper-gold deposits, including Grasberg (more than 70.00 million ounces of gold), Porgera (7.00 million ounces), Frieda River (20.00 million ounces), and Ok Tedi (20.00 million ounces).

Last year, an independent assessment estimated a conceptual exploration target for Idenburg ranging from 189,000 ounces at 1.0 g/t gold to 7.20 million ounces at 6.1 g/t gold. Although these figures are not JORC-compliant mineral resources, Far East Gold said they indicate the project's broader potential.

The company said it now plans to undertake ground-based work across the highest-priority targets, with the goal of defining near-term drill programs. It continues to advance a pipeline of six projects across Australia and Indonesia.
