ReconAfrica CEO highlights move to Damara Fold Belt, Kovango drill plans, and local investments

ReconAfrica CEO highlights move to Damara Fold Belt, Kovango drill plans, and local investments

Reconnaissance Energy Africa (ReconAfrica) CEO Brian Reinsborough provides an update on the company’s exploration strategy in Namibia’s Damara Fold Belt, where the company has shifted its focus away from the historical rift play toward what it believes is a more technically promising target.

Reinsborough explained that the pivot is already paying off, with positive results from the Gobabis-1 well confirming the geological model and helping to de-risk future drilling efforts. The company is now preparing to drill the Kovango prospect, a large-scale structure measuring roughly 20 kilometres in length and 5 kilometres in width, with plans to drill through approximately 1,500 metres of reservoir section. Calling it “a great shot on goal,” Reinsborough noted that the Gobabis results have provided a clearer path forward.

Financing remains a central focus for ReconAfrica as a non-revenue company. Reinsborough emphasized the importance of balancing growth with shareholder dilution, pointing to both capital markets activity and a strategic partnership with BW Energy as key funding sources. He highlighted BW Energy’s role as more than just a financial partner:

“BW Energy’s technical collaboration is incredibly valuable. Our exploration teams are in constant dialogue, and their participation in our recent equity raise to maintain their pro-rata share demonstrates strong confidence in the asset,” he said.

Beyond exploration, ReconAfrica is investing in the local communities of Namibia. Reinsborough spoke about a recently completed solar-powered water well installation in a nearby village, which now provides residents with access to clean drinking water for the first time.

As ReconAfrica advances its drilling campaign, the Kovango prospect represents the company’s next major milestone, with potential to unlock significant resource opportunities in the Damara Fold Belt.
