Candel Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CADL), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on viral immunotherapies, announced the appointment of Dr Carl June to its Research Advisory Board.
Dr June is an internationally recognized leader in cancer immunotherapy and played a key role in developing the first FDA-approved CAR-T cell therapy.
He serves as the Richard W Vague Professor in Immunotherapy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, where he also directs the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies and the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.
His research focuses on lymphocyte activation, immune tolerance, and adoptive immunotherapy for cancer and chronic infections.
At Candel, Dr June will provide guidance on the company’s lead programs, including CAN-2409, being studied in multiple solid tumors, and CAN-3110, targeting recurrent high-grade glioma.

Dr Paul Peter Tak, Candel CEO, welcomed Dr June to the company’s Research Advisory Board.
“His distinguished expertise in T cell engineering and immunology will provide an invaluable resource, as we advance CAN-2409 across multiple solid tumors, with an expected Biologics License Application (BLA) submission for prostate cancer in Q4 2026,” Tak said.
Shares of Candel added 3.5% at about $6 on the announcement.
