ImmuPharma PLC (AIM:IMM) shares rocketed 141% on Monday after the company announced it has filed a new patent application for its lead drug candidate P140, described as the world’s first “immunormaliser” for autoimmune diseases.
The application could provide up to 20 years of commercial exclusivity covering both a novel diagnostic test and a precision therapy.
The approach targets patients with a newly defined “Type M” immune disorder who respond strongly to P140, potentially opening the way to treatments across as many as 50 conditions.
Unlike conventional immunosuppressants, P140 is designed to restore balance in the immune system without weakening it, reducing the risk of infection or cancer. The accompanying test could shorten diagnosis times, improve patient selection for trials and boost the chances of regulatory approval.
Chief executive Tim McCarthy hailed the development as “a game changer” that expanded P140’s scope and strengthened partner discussions.
The shares rose 3.14p to 5.37p.
