Cordiant completes purchase of BT Ireland fibre arm

Cordiant Digital Infrastructure Ltd (LSE:CORD) has completed its acquisition of BT Communications Ireland, adding a major fibre network to its Irish portfolio.

The deal, first announced in February, brings some 3,400 kilometres of owned and operated fibre serving around 400 customers in the telecoms, enterprise and government sectors.

BT Communications Ireland will now sit within Speed Fibre Group, Cordiant’s wholly owned Irish platform.

Cordiant said the acquisition would broaden Speed Fibre’s product range and customer base, while delivering efficiencies by combining the businesses.

The enlarged network is expected to play a role in meeting demand from hyperscale and edge data centres, multinationals, local businesses and government agencies.

The company added that the extra capacity would also support the rapid growth in artificial intelligence applications, which are heavily reliant on fast and reliable connectivity.

Cordiant said the deal marked a significant step in its “buy, build and grow” strategy to scale digital infrastructure platforms in key markets such as Ireland.
