Duolingo (NASDAQ:DUOL) shares fell more than 7% to about $299 in late-morning trading on Friday after Google revealed new artificial intelligence-powered live translation and language learning tools.
The move is a potential threat to Duolingo’s growth and user base in the space.
Alibaba Group (NYSE:BABA)’s NYSE-listed shares climbed about 12% to about $134 in early Friday trading after the Chinese e-commerce and cloud-computing company reported better-than-expected earnings and stronger cloud growth for its first quarter 2025.
Alibaba saw its adjusted earnings per share for the period fall 10% to 14.75 yuan, although it surpassed the 14.16-yuan analyst consensus forecast, according to FactSet.
Dell Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:DELL) shares fell after the company posted record second quarter results but reported margin pressure and issued adjusted earnings guidance below Wall Street expectations.
For the fiscal second quarter ended August 2, 2025, Dell reported revenue of $29.8 billion, up 19% from a year earlier, and adjusted earnings per share of $2.32, a 19% increase.
PepsiCo Inc (NASDAQ:PEP, ETR:PEP) reported on Friday that it has increased its ownership interest in Celsius Holdings (NASDAQ:CELH) in a $585 million convertible preferred stock deal.
After the conversion, PepsiCo will own about 11% of Celsius. The beverage giant paid $550 million for an 8.5% stake in Celsius in 2022.
Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ:MRVL) shares fell sharply after the company issued a sales forecast that came in below Wall Street expectations, overshadowing record second quarter results fueled by strong demand in artificial intelligence.
For Q2, Marvell reported adjusted earnings of $0.67 per share and revenue of $2.01 billion, both in line with analyst estimates. Revenue rose 58% year-over-year, while adjusted earnings grew 123%.
Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT, ETR:CAT1) has warned that tariffs will have a bigger impact on its financial results this year, sending shares down 3% in extended trading.
The company now expects a net tariff hit of between $1.5 billion and $1.8 billion in 2025, it said in an SEC filing overnight, up from its previous forecast of up to $1.5 billion.
