BCAL Diagnostics Ltd (ASX:BDX) has entered into a partnership with Sonic Healthcare Australia Pathology Pty Limited, a subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare Limited. The agreement expands patient access to BREASTEST plus™, BCAL’s blood-based cancer diagnostic designed for women with dense breast tissue.
The test has been available through Sonic’s Sydney network since March 2025. Under the formalised agreement, collection services will be offered at 93 Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology centres in Sydney, while specimen pre-analytical processing will be managed by Melbourne Pathology. The arrangement provides women with greater convenience by allowing tests to be taken closer to home, while enabling faster turnaround times for clinicians.
“This agreement with Sonic marks an important milestone in BCAL’s commercial roll-out. By partnering with Sonic, we are making it convenient for women to have the BREASTEST plus™ blood test taken close to home helping both patients and clinicians alike. Quicker access to clinic and faster turnaround times aids better detection of disease and its management,” BCAL Chief Executive Officer Shane Ryan said the agreement marks a pivotal stage in the company’s commercial strategy.
The partnership builds on a successful initial trial within Sonic’s Sydney network, reinforcing BREASTEST plus™ as a complementary tool to existing breast screening methods.
Expansion plans beyond Sydney
The rollout of BREASTEST plus™ will continue in a staged approach. Alongside Sydney, Melbourne is a key focus area with Melbourne Pathology providing centralised processing support. BCAL noted that further expansion is planned in the coming months as part of its broader strategy to establish the test across multiple regions.
The agreement with Sonic Healthcare gives BCAL access to one of Australia’s largest pathology networks, enhancing its ability to deliver early and accurate diagnostic support. The staged expansion aligns with BCAL’s mission to improve breast cancer detection outcomes while reducing the need for invasive follow-up procedures.

BREASTEST plus™ is the first product in BCAL’s BREASTEST® range of non-invasive, lipid-based breast cancer diagnostics. It is designed as a ‘rule-out’ test, particularly for women with dense breast tissue, and is used alongside mammography. The test provides additional diagnostic insights that can improve screening accuracy and help clinicians determine whether further investigations or biopsies are necessary.
