Klarna looks to IPO at valuation that could hit $14B: report

Klarna, a Swedish financial technology firm, will make another attempt at an initial public offering (IPO) in the US in September, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The media outlet noted that Klarna could fetch a valuation of between $13 billion and $14 billion.

The company shelved its plans to go public in 2021 and then paused once again in April of this year after US President Trump’s tariffs made global investors jittery.

Klarna, which provides short-term financing for online shoppers, recently reported that its second-quarter revenue rose 20% from a year earlier to $823 million, while its adjusted operating profit improved by $1 million to $29 million.

The company added that its active customers climbed 31% year over year to 111 million.

Klarna shares sold in the offering could be priced at between $34 and $36 as early as this week, according to the sources quoted by Reuters.

A $14 billion valuation would be a far cry from the $50 billion Klarna was targeting in 2021.

Recent IPOs Figma and Circle, though, have seen their stock prices surge as much as 333% and 864%, respectively, in the days following their stock market debuts.
