American Rare Earths hits important milestone at Cowboy State Mine

American Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:ARR, OTCQB:ARRNF) has marked a key milestone at its Cowboy State Mine (CSM), part of the Halleck Creek Deposit in Wyoming, with the completion of a 24-hour groundwater monitoring well pump test.

The test not only delivers critical hydrological data for regulatory submissions but also provides essential inputs for ongoing Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) engineering work. It represents a significant step forward in compiling the baseline environmental data required for the company’s forthcoming permit to mine application with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality–Land Quality Division (WDEQ–LQD).

Conducted under a WDEQ permit and overseen by hydrologists from WWC Engineering in Sheridan, Wyoming, the test produced a vital dataset for the development of a three-dimensional groundwater model. This model is required as part of the permit to mine application and serves as a cornerstone in meeting regulatory expectations around environmental safeguards.

Importance of hydrological data

The hydrological information captured during the test includes groundwater flow-rate and volumetric data across the CSM site. The results also help determine the degree of hydrological connectivity between monitoring wells, providing greater insight into groundwater behaviour across the deposit.

This information feeds directly into three-dimensional groundwater models, which are crucial in establishing baseline environmental data. Such modelling ensures the company can demonstrate its understanding of groundwater systems to regulators, an essential step in progressing towards approval of mining operations in Wyoming.

Contribution to mine planning and PFS

Beyond environmental permitting, the pump test results carry significant value for American Rare Earths’ ongoing mine planning and Pre-Feasibility Study engineering.

The volumetric and flow-rate data informs both mine design and mineral processing considerations, ensuring technical planning is grounded in reliable environmental data.

WWC Engineering has been commissioned to build and calibrate the groundwater model, providing support to both the regulatory and engineering aspects of the project. This integration of environmental and technical planning reflects a holistic approach to project development.

Strategic significance of Halleck Creek

The Cowboy State Mine forms part of the Halleck Creek Project in Wyoming, which American Rare Earths positions as a cornerstone for strengthening US rare earth supply chain security.

The project is designed for cost-efficient open-pit mining and will benefit from Wyoming’s streamlined permitting processes. Plans for onsite mineral processing and separation facilities further enhance its strategic role in reducing US reliance on imported rare earths, particularly from China.
