Boeing Co (NYSE:BA, ETR:BCO) is reportedly negotiating with Chinese officials to sell as many as 500 aircraft, representing a potential breakthrough in a market that has seen few sales for the US plane maker since 2017.
The discussions, which involve representatives from both Boeing and the Chinese government, are still in the process of finalizing details such as aircraft types, quantities, and delivery timelines, according to Bloomberg News.
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that while the negotiations are progressing, the agreement depends on resolving ongoing trade disputes and could still fall through.
Chinese officials have already begun surveying local airlines to gauge their demand for Boeing planes.
If completed, the transaction would mirror a similar arrangement China made with Airbus for up to 500 jets and would represent a major win for Boeing in the important Chinese aviation market after years of strained relations.
Shares of Boeing traded down 0.6% at $224 on Thursday, having gained more than 26% so far in 2025.
