Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) is developing a new AI chip specifically for China, Reuters reported Tuesday, in a move that could allow the US tech giant to sell more advanced products in the country despite longstanding export restrictions.
The chip, currently referred to as the B30A, will be based on Nvidia’s latest Blackwell architecture and is expected to be more powerful than the H20 model Nvidia is currently permitted to sell in China.
The company hopes to provide samples to Chinese clients for testing as early as next month, the sources said, adding that specifications have not yet been finalized.
US President Donald Trump last week signaled that Nvidia might be allowed to sell a scaled-down version of its next-generation chips in China, following an unprecedented agreement requiring Nvidia and rival AMD to give the US government 15% of revenue from some advanced chip sales in the country.
Nvidia said in a statement, “We evaluate a variety of products for our roadmap, so that we can be prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow.”
China accounted for roughly 13% of Nvidia’s revenue in the past financial year.
Shares of Nvidia fell 2% in early trading on Tuesday.
