Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) announced that it has introduced an upgraded version of its Merrows Maritime Domain Awareness Solution (MDAS), enhancing the system’s role as an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) node.
The company said the update improves the system’s performance, stability, and security, while enabling autonomous collaboration across surface, subsurface, and aerial platforms.
The enhanced Merrows MDAS is designed to provide operators with persistent monitoring capabilities in contested or remote maritime environments.
According to Ocean Power Technologies, the new version allows multiple users to track the same or different assets simultaneously.
It also adds integration options for third-party data feeds, including global Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, weather information, and mapping tools.
The system can be deployed independently or in combination with the company’s PowerBuoy platforms and WAM-V Unmanned Surface Vehicles to create autonomous monitoring networks.
“Merrows is evolving into the connective tissue of maritime operations,” OPT CEO Philipp Stratmann said in a statement.
“These upgrades allow it to function as a true ISR node—supporting autonomous platforms, streamlining decision-making, and strengthening awareness in complex maritime domains.”
