OpenAI launches cut-price subscription as it targets vast Indian market

OpenAI has introduced a lower-cost subscription in India called ChatGPT Go, priced at $4.60 per month, significantly cheaper than the $23 Plus plan.

The new tier, announced today, includes 10 times more usage across messages, image generation and file uploads than the free service, along with improved memory for personalised responses.

Payments can now be made in rupees, including through India’s Unified Payments Interface.

Nick Turley, OpenAI’s vice-president and head of ChatGPT, said India was chosen as the launch market to make the tool more accessible.

India is already the company’s second-largest market, with more than 29 million app downloads in the past 90 days.

By offering locally priced subscriptions, OpenAI hopes to boost paid adoption in a country of 850 million internet users.
