American Rare Earths has hit a major milestone at its Halleck Creek project in Wyoming — producing its first heavy rare earth oxide and light rare earth oxide concentrates.
The heavy concentrate results came in at 97.1% purity, while the light concentrate reached 96.4%.
The work was completed by the University of Kentucky as part of the US Department of Defense’s DARPA EMBER project — which is developing new biotechnology methods to separate and purify rare earth elements.
Interim CEO Joe Evers said: "These results show that light and heavy rare earths oxides can be produced from the Halleck Creek allanite hosted ore body. Both these oxides are used in the production of permanent magnets.”
