Asian Battery Metals managing director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren talked with Proactive about the company’s binding agreement to acquire the Maikhan Uul copper-gold project in southwestern Mongolia. The project lies just 8 kilometres from the company’s flagship Oval Cu-Ni-PGE discovery, marking a strategic expansion in a highly prospective region.
Zunduisuren highlighted the project's near-surface mineralisation and its potential to extend beyond the current 215-metre drilling depth. “It’s a quite exciting project and provides us optionality to look at and evaluate an advanced project that could add value to our shareholders,” he said.
The acquisition represents a key step in consolidating critical metal assets in the region, particularly copper. Zunduisuren noted that the site had only been drilled to a shallow depth, leaving significant exploration upside.
In addition, Asian Battery Metals has been granted a new 3,327-hectare mineral exploration tenement located south of the Yan area. This expands the company’s landholding by 30% and covers a magnetic anomaly that could link to known mineralised mafic rocks identified in recent drilling at MS1.
Zunduisuren described the position as strategic, underscoring its relevance to ongoing exploration around the Oval discovery.
