The ASX 200 closed up around 0.5% on Thursday, setting a new 100-day high. Utilities led the gains, jumping more than 3.5%, followed by financials, while telecommunications fell about 1%.
Buru Energy surged after identifying a new deeper gas prospect beneath its proven Raphael field in Western Australia’s Canning Basin. Alkane Resources also rose after reporting more high-grade gold hits at its El Paso prospect in New South Wales, results that could boost resources and extend mine life at Tomingley.
Telstra Group fell more than 2.5% despite releasing its FY25 results, which showed a 4.6% increase in underlying EBITDA to A$8.6 billion.
South32 plunged after warning it may place its Mozal aluminium operation in Mozambique on care and maintenance from 2026 due to uncertainty over securing affordable power.
