Commercialisation in the US$1.6 billion nerve repair market is gathering pace for Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC, OTC:ORHHF) as the company advances the rollout of its flagship product, Remplir™, in the United States.
Ten surgeries have now been completed using the device, with early adoption progressing in line with Orthocell’s strategy and experience in other markets such as Australia and Singapore, where initial procedures proved pivotal in driving broader clinical uptake and revenue growth.
“We continue to make excellent progress in the US with surgeons building familiarity through early surgical procedures. We’ve seen the strategic importance of these early procedures in our successful market launches of Remplir in Australia and Singapore,” Orthocell CEO Paul Anderson said.
“Our network of distributors remains an important avenue to market, and they have been instrumental in identifying key hospitals for us to target VAC approvals. This is the next important step for us in order to achieve more widespread adoption of Remplir, which in turn will drive revenue generation for Orthocell.”
VAC approvals underway
The company has lodged 36 applications to hospital Value Assessment Committees (VACs), securing three approvals to date.
VACs evaluate the clinical effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of new products before authorising their use. Target hospitals have been selected through Orthocell’s network of US distributors covering 25 states, with applications supported by identified surgeons operating within those facilities.
Logistics and supply
Orthocell has shipped 4,000 units of Remplir to its US logistics partner, Uniphar, for use in surgical procedures. All units were manufactured at the company’s Western Australian facility.
To support the rollout, Orthocell has expanded its US team with two additional staff, including a regional sales director with direct experience in the nerve repair market.
