Anthropic announced Tuesday it will make its AI assistant Claude available to all three branches of the US federal government for a nominal fee of $1 per agency for one year, as part of an effort to accelerate public-sector AI adoption.
The offer covers federal civilian executive branch agencies as well as legislative and judicial branches, and includes both Claude for Enterprise and Claude for Government. The latter is certified for FedRAMP High, enabling use for sensitive but unclassified government work.
“America’s AI leadership requires that our government institutions have access to the most capable, secure AI tools available,” Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said.
“By offering expanded Claude access across all three branches of government, we’re helping the federal workforce leverage frontier AI capabilities to maintain our competitive advantage and better serve the American people.”
The company noted that some agencies are already using Claude for purposes ranging from scientific research to national security.
Claude is currently in use by the Department of Defense under an agreement with a $200 million ceiling to advance national security capabilities, at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where 10,000 researchers use it daily, and at the District of Columbia Department of Health for multilingual public health service access.
The offer builds on Anthropic’s recent partnership with the US General Services Administration (GSA), which added Claude to the GSA schedule last week, streamlining procurement for federal agencies.
“This OneGov deal with Anthropic is proof that the United States is setting the standard for how governments adopt AI — boldly, responsibly, and at scale,” GSA Acting Administrator Michael Rigas said in a statement.
“This agreement puts the most advanced American AI models directly into the hands of those serving the American people.”
