RECCE® 327 Topical Gel shows strong preclinical results

RECCE® 327 Topical Gel shows strong preclinical results

Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd CEO James Graham talked with Proactive about new preclinical data for the company’s RECCE® 327 Topical Gel (R327G), which demonstrated effectiveness against two antibiotic-resistant bacteria while accelerating wound healing. Graham explained that R327G is the first new class of antibiotics in over 40 years, and that the study was conducted with the US Department of Defense, specifically the Department of the Army, focusing on bone wound infections.

“When you can see a compound working so well, not against just one type of bacteria, but the other very deadly type of bacteria, it really is a sight,” Graham said, highlighting the gel’s potential in the fight against superbugs.

The study showed that wounds treated with R327G contracted faster than untreated wounds or those treated with other drugs. Graham noted the gel removed 99.99% of infection in as little as nine days, allowing the wound to heal more quickly and reducing the risk of further infection.

This research builds on a US$2 million grant from the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, which supports multiple studies aimed at developing R327G for both military and civilian bone treatments.
