Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (TSX-V:RECO, OTCQX:RECAF) CEO Brian Reinsborough talked with Proactive about the company's latest operational milestone in Namibia.
Reinsborough confirmed that ReconAfrica has officially spudded the Kavango well on July 31st, as previously communicated to the market. The drilling follows encouraging geological results from the Naingopo well, prompting the company to shift its rig schedule and initiate work at Kavango West.
“This could transform the company, transform the region of Namibia and our partners as well,” Reinsborough said.
The structure being drilled spans nearly 20 kilometres in length and 5 kilometres in width. According to the company’s external auditors, the Kavango prospect holds an unrisked resource potential of 340 million barrels of oil equivalent and 30 million barrels on a risked basis.
Drilling operations are expected to take approximately 105 days, with results anticipated by year-end. Reinsborough noted that the Kavango prospect is comparable in scale to deepwater targets but benefits from lower-cost onshore operations, potentially accelerating time to first production.
The company is also eyeing future appraisal work on the eastern side of the structure, depending on initial results. Plans for Namibia’s first onshore 3D seismic survey have been deferred to 2026 due to the current focus on drilling operations.
