Low-cost carrier Fastjet (LON:FJET) issued a bullish update on prospects for the current year with new routes in Zambia and Zimbabwe expected to begin shortly.

It was one announcement on a fairly busy news day in the world of small caps.

The Africa-focused airline incurred more heavy losses in 2014 due to closing legacy operations in Ghana and Angola and start-up costs, but has since raised £50mln in what it described as transformational funding.

Elsewhere, underlying profits from Acal (LON:ACL), the supplier of customised electronic components to industry, came in slightly ahead of expectations.

Headline profit before tax for the year to March 31 totalled £11.8mln, up 87% from £6.3mln the year before, and above market forecasts of £11.56mln.

Meanwhile, India-based utility OPG Power (LON:OPG) lifted annual profits by more than a fifth, with this year set to be boosted further by two huge new electricity plants at Chennai and Gujarat.

LGO Energy (LON:LGO) revealed an 80% increase in oil sales during 2014 following the successes at the Goudron field in Trinidad.

North River Resources (LON:NRRP) boss James Beams in his inaugural annual results statement said the Namib lead and zinc project will be the primary focus in the coming months as the company looks to secure a mining licence.

In other mining news, Xtract Resources (LON:XTR) found another small area of gold it can mine from the surface at its Chepica mine in Chile.

Elsewhere, KEFI Minerals (LON:KEFI) confirmed it is on course to update the definitive feasibility study for the flagship Tulu Kapi project in Ethiopia this month and expects to have concluded the full financing for the planned gold mine next quarter.

Turkey- focused explorer Ariana Resources (LON:AAU) has established a new subsidiary to focus on non-gold opportunities, it said in final results.

Fellow gold explorer Medgold Resources (CVE:MED) expects final results from drilling at the Lagares project in Portugal this month (June), it said, in its latest quarterly results.

In oil news, Canadian Overseas Petroleum (LON:COPL) said ExxonMobil, its exploration partner in Liberia, is now planning the next steps for the LB-13 drilling project.

It comes after the West African country was declared free of Ebola by the World Health Organisation.

Meanwhile, Magnolia Petroleum (LON:MAGP) will be participating in 16 new wells in proven US oil and gas projects.

It will have a minority interest, from 0.21% up to 10.94%, in these drill programmes which target formations such as the Bakken, in North Dakota, and the Woodford and Mississippi Lime plays, in Oklahoma.

Amedeo Resources (LON:AMED) said it expects the market for oil rigs to pick up in the medium term.

In mobile news, MoPowered (LON:MPOW) said its proposed share swap arrangement with Cxense, announced last month, needs to be cleared by the Oslo-listed software firm's shareholders.

The UK mobile commerce software specialist will issue £500,000 worth of its sharers to Cxsense in return for a parcel of Cxsense shares also worth £500,000.

Elsewhere, fast-growing mobile phone software developer Globo (LON:GBO) is to make it easier for US investors to trade its shares. The company said over-the-counter (OTC) trading facilities for its fully-sponsored level 1 American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) have been set-up.

In pharma news, life sciences group OptiBiotix Health (LON:OPTI) has granted an option over its cholesterol reducing product to an unnamed multinational company.

The cholesterol and diabetes specialist has created a supplement which, in laboratory testing, showed a reduction in cholesterol of between 71% and 82%.

Finally, AIM-listed SerVision (LON:SEV) has been valued at US$92mln by Noa TV Technologies, a research firm that specialises in analysing Israeli tech companies.

Finally, Egypt-focused explorer Alexander Nubia (CVE:AAN) plans to ussue around 4mln shares to settle outstanding debt for C$502,428.

The shares will be issued at 12.5 cents a share, the firm told the statement.
