EDX Medical and partners launch new pneumonia test venture

EDX Medical Group PLC (AQSE:EDX) will work with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the UK Health Security Agency to complete a new pneumonia test for critically ill patients.

The test detects DNA or RNA from microbes that cause lung infections and delivers results to intensive care unit doctors in 60 seconds using digital technology."This is a massively important project which will result in a world-class test that will demonstrate the immediate impact of new clinical diagnostics in frontline NHS hospitals, saving both lives and resources," said EDX founder Sir Chris Evans.

The public-private partnership includes the University of Cambridge and Cambridge Enterprise. It aims to make the test available to NHS patients this year.

EDX Medical has licensed the intellectual property and clinical research for the test from Cambridge University Hospitals and Cambridge Enterprise and will carry out validation work before supplying it to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and other hospitals in the trust’s catchment area.

Meanwhile, EDX chief executive Mike Hudson added: "It's a great privilege to collaborate with the leading experts at Addenbrooke's and Cambridge University to make this test available as soon as possible for NHS patients in the UK."
