Tryptamine Therapeutics (ASX: TYP) hit a major milestone in its world-first clinical trial for binge eating disorder — with partner Swinburne University now formally approved to handle controlled substances of TRP-8803, the company’s psychedelic drug candidate.
The Victorian Department of Health has granted Swinburne the necessary permit, clearing the way for supply of Tryptamine’s investigational drug, TRP-8803, and allowing the trial to progress to its next phase.
The open-label study is investigating TRP-8803 as a potential treatment for binge eating disorder, with patient screening already well underway.
The trial will enrol 12 adults across two cohorts, each receiving two psychedelic-assisted doses — spaced two weeks apart — alongside psychotherapy and clinical monitoring.
The primary goal is to assess the safety of repeat dosing, while also exploring impacts on binge eating frequency, weight-related health, and TRP-8803’s psychedelic activity.
Tryp's Chief Executive Officer, Jason Carroll, said: "Our focus will now shift to supplying Swinburne with TRP-8803 for use in the trial, as well as assisting with patient enrolment. Given the level of enquiries to date and progress with initial patient screening, we remain on track for first enrolment this month and first dosing this quarter."
