OpenAI reportedly exploring $500bn valuation in new share sale for employees

OpenAI is said to be in early talks over a potential share sale that could value the company at around $500 billion, according to Reuters, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.

The proposed transaction would allow employees to sell some of their shares, giving them a chance to benefit financially from the company's rapid rise.

The discussions, which remain confidential, reportedly include existing backers such as Thrive Capital, though no final decisions have been made.

The possible valuation marks a steep jump from OpenAI’s current estimated worth of $300 billion.

If successful, the deal would offer a financial boost to staff at a time when major tech firms. including Meta, are competing fiercely to attract artificial intelligence talent with high pay packages.

Reports first emerged earlier this week.
