Risers & Fallers: West African Minerals, Redx Pharma, Ensor, Image Scan, Intercede, Scancell

It was a bad day for companies with the word 'scan' in their name.

Below are some of the main news-driven share price gains at 4.00pm.

RISERS

West African Minerals (LON:WAFM), up 33.3%. Major shareholder Beaufort Nominees has called off its plans to call a shareholder meeting after succeeding in getting two of its nominated directors appointed to the board.

Redx Pharma (LON:REDX), up 14.6%. The drug discovery and development company has reached pre-clinical development stage with a new anti-infective compound designed to tackle Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, better known as MRSA.

Ensor Holdings (LON:ESR), up 5.9%. The company has sold its Stockport land holding for £1.31mln, which is £763,000 above its book value.

FALLERS

Image Scan Holdings (LON:IGE), down 15.4%. The company’s own headline to its interim results was refreshingly honest: income down but new products launched. Revenue almost halved to £863,000.

Intercede Group (LON:IGP), down 11.5%. Full year sales ebbed to £8.8mln from £9.8mln the year before, and the company fell into the red, with a loss before tax of £1.3mln versus a profit the previous year of £800,000.

Scancell Holdings (LON:SCLP), up 10.5%. “"We are excited to report this latest clinical data on melanoma patients with fully resected tumours,” said Professor Lindy Durrant, joint chief executive officer of Scancell; the market seemed less excited, even though Professor Durrant said the positive results from this Phase 1/2 trial “gives us confidence that our SCIB1 ImmunoBody has the potential to become the first non-toxic effective adjuvant treatment for resected melanoma.”

RISERS

Premier Oil (LON:PMO), up 6.8%. The firm has concluded two separate transactions in relation to its operated Solan project, West of Shetland. It has acquired Chyrsaor’s 40% interest in the project and has entered into an agreement with FlowStream Commodities that will see Premier receive US$100mln up-front in return for giving up a share of the production proceeds from Solan.

Cairn Energy (LON:CNE), up 6.3%. Jefferies lifted its recommendation for offshore firm Cairn Energy to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’ thanks to what analyst Mark Wilson calls a “play opening” success in Senegal.

Wolseley (LON:WOS), up 2.1%. The third quarter interim management statement saw the plumbers’ merchant feeling flushed with success, as it reported a 7.5% increase in like—or-like revenues.

FALLERS

Foxtons Group (LON:FOXT), down 5.3%. It was revealed after the market closed yesterday that Cantillon Capital Management had reduced its stake in the estate agent to less than 5%.

AO World (LON:AO.), down 3.2%. The online seller of white goods made a loss per share of 0.60p in the year to the end of March and said trading in the UK remains challenging.

British American Tobacco (LON:BATS), down 2.4%. The fags maker has vowed to fight a Canadian court order to pay damages of £5.4bn over claims it failed to warn customers about the risks of smoking.

Below are some of the main news-driven share price gains at 8.45am.

RISERS

Paternoster Resources (LON:PRS), up 12.5%. The investment company has formed a joint venture with another energy sector-focused investment company, Littoral Oil & Gas, to acquire energy assets in Algeria.

Camco Clean Energy (LON:CCE), up 7.3%. The company has, as flagged last month, sold another chunk of its carbon credit portfolio, raising US$300,000.

North River Resources (LON:NRRP), up 6.6%. Full-year results revealed the usual losses expected of an early stage mining company, but the market liked the news that two pending permits have been renewed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy in Namibia.

FALLERS

SeaEnergy (LON:SEA), down 26.3%. The group said in a trading update that the slump in activity in the oil and gas sector is having repercussions for its Return to Scene business.

Oxford Pharmascience (LON:OXP), down 8.4%. The shares slipped a penny to 10.875p after the company said it had raised £20mln by placing shares at 10p a pop.
