Gelion PLC's (AIM:GELN) share price climbed 9% after the company announced a key breakthrough in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery technology.
The energy storage firm reported strong results from initial coin cell tests using its proprietary sulfur cathode, developed in partnership with the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces.
According to Gelion, its Li-S cells achieved over 1,100 charge-discharge cycles with 90% energy retention at low rates and 75% at high power, showing both long battery life and strong performance for rapid-charge uses.
This technology aims to address major barriers to commercial adoption of Li-S batteries, which offer 60-70% higher specific energy density than current lithium-ion batteries and use more sustainable, lower-cost materials.
Gelion’s advances in both sodium-sulfur and lithium-sulfur cells target applications in electric vehicles, drones, eVTOL aircraft, and large-scale energy storage systems.
The shares rose 2.22p to 27.22p.
