Cobalt Blue CEO Dr Andrew Tong talked with Proactive about recent milestones across its key development projects, including the Kwinana cobalt refinery and the Horse Creek cobalt-copper-zinc asset.
Dr Tong highlighted the completion of a key scoping study at Horse Creek, laying the groundwork for future development. The study focused on an open-pit heap leach operation primarily targeting copper and zinc, but recent reviews revealed an additional 3.6 million ounces of silver within the same heap, valued at over A$150 million. “That would significantly increase the cash flow returns,” Tong said, referencing potential impacts on project economics.
Meanwhile, Cobalt Blue has secured a feedstock agreement with Glencore for cobalt hydroxide — a significant milestone for the Kwinana refinery as it moves toward a final investment decision (FID). The company continues to progress both projects in parallel, identifying value engineering opportunities and exploration targets, particularly at San Diego and San Diego North.
Tong also noted three near-term targets for resource growth and emphasised the company’s focus for the upcoming quarters. “Really excited to move ahead with that Horse Creek project and get on the ground and do some of that exploration,” he said.
