Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) plans to transform its core trading platform into an “everything exchange,” adding tokenised stocks, derivatives, prediction markets and early-stage token sales alongside cryptocurrencies.
The company will launch the expanded service for US users in the coming months, with international access to follow, depending on regulatory approval.
“We’re building an exchange for everything — all on-chain,” said Max Branzburg, Coinbase’s vice president of product.
The move brings Coinbase into closer competition with platforms like Robinhood, Gemini and Kraken, which have also rolled out tokenised equities to users abroad.
The expansion follows the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s announcement of “Project Crypto,” an initiative to update securities rules for the digital age. Coinbase has also launched the Base App, aiming to become a one-stop finance platform.
