OpenAI has reached an annualized revenue run rate of $12 billion, doubling its income in the first seven months of the year, according to a report from The Information citing a person familiar with the matter.
The figure suggests the company behind the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT is generating about $1 billion in monthly revenue.
The report also noted that OpenAI's user base has grown to approximately 700 million weekly active users across its ChatGPT products, which include offerings for both consumers and businesses.
At the same time, the company’s projected expenses have risen. Per the report, OpenAI is now forecasting a cash burn of around $8 billion in 2025, up from an earlier estimate of $7 billion, reflecting continued investment in infrastructure, research, and product development.
To support its operations and expansion, OpenAI is currently raising funds as part of a $30 billion financing round.
Existing investors including Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management have reportedly committed several hundred million dollars, according to the report.
Other investors, excluding Japan’s SoftBank, have reportedly committed about $7.5 billion so far. SoftBank has separately agreed to invest a total of $32 billion since its initial backing of OpenAI in late 2024.
OpenAI declined to comment on the report.
