Lightning Minerals managing director Alex Biggs talked with Proactive about the company’s recent site visit to the Mt Turner Gold Project in Queensland as it prepares to kick off its phase one drilling campaign.
Biggs, along with the company’s exploration manager, visited the Mt Turner Gold and adjacent copper project near Georgetown. He highlighted the importance of evaluating the site firsthand, stating, “There’s nothing like touching it, feeling it, seeing it.” The visit confirmed the presence of multiple gold and copper targets over a 14-kilometre structural corridor.
Drilling is scheduled to begin shortly after the company’s AGM on August 26. Phase one will target known gold zones beneath six oxide pits mined in the 1980s and 1990s. According to Biggs, “We know there’s gold there. Historically, people have mined it. They've made money out of it.” The program will test for mineralisation extensions both along strike and at depth.
In parallel, soil sampling and rock chip programs are underway to identify additional drill targets. While copper porphyry opportunities were also reviewed during the visit, these will be explored in a future campaign. The company aims to maintain on-site presence during drilling to monitor progress and optimise exploration strategy.
