Sovereign Metals (ASX: SVM) has released promising new test results from its flagship Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project in Malawi — positioning the project as a major contender in the global shift toward alternative graphite supply.
The company has successfully optimised the coating process for producing premium-grade battery anode material from Kasiya’s natural graphite, and the coated spherical purified graphite consistently exceeded key industry benchmarks.
These results come at a critical time. With the US imposing steep new tariffs on Chinese graphite — now effectively facing a 160% import barrier — battery manufacturers are urgently seeking secure, non-Chinese supply options.
Managing director and CEO Frank Eagar said: "Kasiya's resource scale, long life, potentially lowest-cost non-Chinese producer, combined with our demonstrated technical excellence, positions us perfectly to serve battery manufacturers seeking secure supply chain diversification.”
Once developed, Kasiya is on track to become the world’s largest and lowest-cost natural graphite operation outside of China.
