Percheron Therapeutics (ASX: PER) has just received a major scientific boost, with new preclinical data showing that its antibody therapy, HMBD-002, significantly enhances the effects of radiotherapy in treating head and neck cancer.
The study, led by Stanford University, used advanced patient-derived models — essentially implanting human tumours into mice — to replicate real-world cancer biology. When HMBD-002 was combined with radiotherapy, researchers saw powerful tumour suppression and a notable improvement in survival outcomes.
HMBD-002 works by targeting VISTA, an immune checkpoint linked to treatment resistance. And while animal studies don’t always mirror human responses, this research strongly supports moving forward with clinical trials — especially in tough-to-treat cancers like squamous cell carcinoma, lung, breast, and melanoma.
