Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is reportedly shutting down its artificial intelligence research lab in Shanghai, according to the Financial Times.
The closure is linked to growing political and economic tensions between the US and China, with increased scrutiny of American companies operating in China.
A scientist from the Shanghai lab told the FT the closure as part of "strategic adjustments amid US-China tensions".
Established in 2018, Amazon Web Services’ Shanghai facility once employed over 1,000 staff.
