Dynamic Metals confirms gold and copper mineralisation at Cognac West

Dynamic Metals Ltd (ASX:DYM) has delivered strong results from its drilling campaign at the Cognac West gold prospect, significantly advancing its understanding of the area's mineral potential. The latest assays from Phase 2 reverse circulation (RC) drilling confirm both gold and copper mineralisation, reinforcing the prospect’s potential as a multi-phase, polymetallic system.

Part of the company's flagship Widgiemooltha Project in Western Australia, Cognac West has seen a surge in exploration activity following the identification of large surface anomalies at Anomalies A and B. The latest results have extended known mineralisation, with impressive gold (Au) intercepts such as 8 metres @ 2.78 g/t Au from 60 metres and copper (Cu) assays reaching 5 metres @ 0.44% Cu from 60 metres.

These findings, alongside the identification of sulphide minerals such as chalcopyrite and cobaltite, point to the presence of a complex and multi-element mineral system that offers significant exploration upside.

Gold assays indicate strong mineralisation

The Phase 2 RC drilling results returned gold values that suggest continuity of mineralisation at both Anomaly A and Anomaly B. Key gold intercepts from the latest drilling include:

  • 8 metres @ 2.78 g/t Au from 60 metres, including 4 metres @ 5.04 g/t Au (WDR041);
  • 4 metres @ 1.66 g/t Au from 56 metres (WDR058);
  • 1 metre @ 1.48 g/t Au from 116 metres (WDR025);
  • 3 metres @ 0.81 g/t Au from 44 metres, including 1 metre @ 2.23 g/t Au (WDR040); and
  • 24 metres @ 0.29 g/t Au from 52 metres, including 1 metre @ 1.18 g/t Au (WDR034).

The company also observed polymetallic signatures, with copper assays providing further support for the area’s potential. Notable copper results from Phase 2 drilling include:

  • 5 metres @ 0.44% Cu from 60 metres, including 1 metre @ 1.06% Cu (WDR041)
  • 4 metres @ 0.43% Cu from 120 metres (WDR039)
  • 4 metres @ 0.3% Cu from 12 metres (WDR040)
  • 6 metres @ 0.22% Cu from 114 metres to EOH (WDR056)

“These latest assay results, together with the identification of sulphide minerals and the emerging copper anomaly at Anomaly B, reinforce the potential for a large, multi-phase mineral system at Cognac West,” said Dynamic Metals managing director Karen Wellman. “We are particularly encouraged by the polymetallic signature and the opportunity to integrate new geophysical modelling into our exploration strategy.”

Cognac West’s structural complexity and mineral potential

The Cognac West prospect is structurally complex, located near the Republican Thrust, a major geological feature in the region. Historical exploration, dating back to the 1970s, has been limited to shallow drilling and gold assays, but recent programs have highlighted significant potential for broader mineralisation.

In 2024, Dynamic Metals conducted an extensive soil sampling program at the site, identifying areas with notable gold anomalism. Peak assay results from rock sampling have included exceptional gold grades such as 2,040 g/t, 53.1 g/t, and 8.95 g/t.

The first phase of drilling in early 2025 targeted surface anomalies, refining the geological model and setting the stage for the current follow-up drilling program.

Copper mineralisation emerges as a new opportunity

Phase 2 drilling at Anomaly B has expanded the understanding of the mineral system, particularly with the identification of copper mineralisation, which was not previously reported in this area.

Although copper and gold mineralisation appear to be in distinct zones, their co-occurrence in this complex geological setting highlights the potential for a polymetallic system, the company said.

The copper assays, combined with petrological analysis that identified chalcopyrite and cobaltite, suggest that the area may host a multi-phase hydrothermal system with both gold and copper mineralisation.

Next steps and future exploration

Dynamic Metals is reprocessing historical airborne electromagnetic survey data to assess the significance of an underlying conductive feature at Anomaly B. This work, coupled with ongoing regional data analysis, will help refine drill targeting and structural interpretations for the next phase of exploration.

The company is also awaiting assay results from first-pass soil sampling at the Courvoisier gold prospect and plans further drilling at the Chalice South prospect in the September quarter.

With strong exploration results and ongoing, focused programs, Dynamic Metals is accelerating its efforts in the Widgiemooltha region, poised to make significant discoveries in both gold and copper.
