Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (TSX-V:RECO, OTCQX:RECAF) announced it will spud its Kavango West 1X exploration well in Namibia before the end of July, targeting over 1,500 metres of Otavi carbonate reservoir in the Damara Fold Belt.
The well is expected to reach a total depth of approximately 3,800 metres, or 12,500 feet.
The company said that the drilling rig has been safely mobilized to the site, all necessary regulatory permits have been secured, and final rig assembly and safety checks are underway.
Kavango West 1X marks the second exploration test in the expansive Damara Fold Belt play. The well targets a large structural fold identified on modern 2D seismic data, extending approximately 22 kilometers in length and three kilometers in width.
The company has mapped more than 19 prospects and leads within the fold belt trend and has recently expanded its footprint by securing an additional five million acres under a Memorandum of Understanding in neighboring Angola.

Alongside the operational update, ReconAfrica announced that Iman Hill will step down from the company’s board of directors at the end of the month due to international work commitments. Hill joined the board in August 2023.
Following her departure, the board will comprise five directors, three of whom are independent. ReconAfrica currently intends to maintain the board at five members.
