Midnight Sun Mining Corp (TSX-V:MMA, OTCQB:MDNGF) has kicked off an expansion drilling program at its Kazhiba-Main oxide copper target, part of the Solwezi Project in Zambia, as the company aims to define a maiden resource estimate later this year.
The new campaign follows a successful reverse circulation (RC) drill program in late 2024 that confirmed the presence of high-grade, near-surface copper mineralization, with standout intercepts including 10.7% copper over 21 metres and 5.6% copper over 26 metres.
To date, only about 40% of the geochemical anomaly at Kazhiba-Main has been tested, the company said, highlighting significant potential for further discoveries.
“We are now well underway with RC drilling at Kazhiba-Main, working to establish the extents of mineralization,” said CEO Al Fabbro. “The exceptional high-grade nature of this mineralization is clear, and we are now moving swiftly to expand the mineralized zone and deliver a maiden resource.”
The 2025 program includes 164 drill holes targeting the expansion of oxide copper mineralization outside the previously drilled area, as well as infill drilling within last year’s grid. The work forms part of Midnight Sun’s cooperative exploration plan with First Quantum Minerals, whose Kansanshi Copper Mine lies just six kilometres northeast of Kazhiba-Main.
In addition to the expansion drilling, Midnight Sun recently completed a Partial Ionic Leach (PIL) geochemical sampling program over three new targets in the Kazhiba-East area, collecting 585 samples. These zones are interpreted as geological analogs to Kazhiba-Main, and results from ALS Chemex in Ndola are expected within four weeks.
The company said it is prepared to expand the drill program further depending on incoming assay results and plans to complete a maiden resource estimate once drilling concludes.
