Kromek secures £1.7m Home Office contract for nuclear detection equipment

Kromek Group PLC (AIM:KMK) has been awarded a £1.7 million contract to supply radiological nuclear detection equipment and support services for the Home Office.

This marks the first order the company has received under the UK Government’s Radiological Nuclear Detection Framework, a four-year programme aimed at improving national security through enhanced radiation monitoring.

The contract covers the delivery of Kromek’s D3S-ID wearable radiation detector, along with training and ongoing maintenance.

Most of the contract’s value is due to be recognised in Kromek’s current financial year, which the group said would contribute to growth in its detection equipment business.

Kromek, which specialises in advanced imaging and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) detection, is pre-qualified under three categories of the government’s procurement framework.

These categories cover handheld, wearable, and large volume static radiation detectors. The framework allows selected suppliers to receive orders for a range of equipment to support the Home Office’s radiological detection needs.

Chief executive Arnab Basu said, “We're proud to win our first contract under the UK Government framework for radiological and nuclear detection equipment.

"As one of the few pre-approved suppliers, we are uniquely positioned to support the Home Office's mission to strengthen national security and to secure further strategic orders.

"This contract affirms our leadership in the sector and highlights the significant growth potential unlocked by our selection for this critical framework.”

Kromek expects the award to underpin further opportunities within the government’s detection framework, which runs until 2028.
